The Essence Music Festival is just days away.  My itinerary is finalized.  I’m packing bags.  Now, I just wait until the day I leave for the festivities.  Can you tell I’m excited?  I can’t wait to share pictures, stories, and video with you.  This is sure to be a great time for us.  So really quickly....I’m in the South with this brutal, summertime heat.  My tip for you is to drink plenty of water.  Please stay hydrated.  If you don’t, you can risk permanently damaging your vocal chords.  So, when you wake up in the morning, drink you some room temperature water.  Throughout the day, especially if you’re going to be in the sun, drink plenty of water and liquid.  Stay healthy & keep that gift in tact!

Warm Up!

Singing is just like exercising or running.  Stretching prior to a work out or exercise makes your body more durable less likely to be injured.  The same holds true for your vocal chords.  Warming up before singing is the same as stretching before a good run.  It gives your vocal chords more flexibility and lessens the likelihood of a vocal injury.  Many of us tend to think it’s a waste of time or just don’t feel it’s important.  Vocal warm ups thin out mucous.  Also, just like an athlete, warm ups improve your performance.  Think of this way.  What if you could never sing again? After an injury, it’s so easy for us to point what could have been done to prevent it.  Stay on top of your gift and keep it in tip top shape through vocal warm ups!
