Classically trained singers spend years perfecting their voices. It’s unfortunate that they often find it difficult to be as versatile a singer as they expected (or were promised) to be. Classical voices need to learn some basic tips to transition their voices from classical singing to pop.
  1. Modify Vowels- Classically trained singers are taught to sing with pure vowels, and pop singers are taught to sing as they speak. If you make the vowel a little less pure and rich, it will lighten your tone and make the singing more ‘speech- like’, much like a pop singing
  2. Modify Vibrato- Classical singers have been taught to use vibrato from the onset of a singing tone, however pop singers do not release their vibrato until the end of a phrase in many cases. A classical singer, in order to this, must learn how to comfortably produce tension at the base of the tongue while singing for this effect.
  3. Sing in the Mix and Chest more.- Classical singing gets more beautiful as you master your head voice, but pop singing is often  considered more  aggressive and powerful, which requires you sing in a higher chest voice. A classically trained singer would need to learn to sing with a bit more tension without cutting off the sound completely to master this. It takes training and practice to do the chest voice properly but it is certainly possible.
